İstanbul, Turkey

Chilly and raining upon arrival in the Sultanahmet area, we walked around Tokapi Palace where the Sultans and their harem lived for hundreds of years. We were there during Ramadan so people fast all day and eat dinner at night, so that night the pedestrian walking street in Beyoglu was lively. The picture above is the Ayasofya- originally an orthodox church and now a mosque. The next day was sunny and we went running along the Bosphorus. Eileen had to visit the Grand Bazaar to shop and we loved the fresh lokum (typical soft candy, my favorite is with nuts on the inside and coconut on the outside) and Turkish tea from the Spice Bazaar. Istanbul is very western. Pictured below is the Blue Mosque at night (right) and during the day (left).
