İndependence Day in Turkey Oct. 29

İt was a big celebration with school kids parading in costumes, adults dancing, live music, fireworks, flags being waved everywhere, and lots of traditional Turkish food in the town square. Just like our July 4th! We had a fabulous time and joined in the fun with a Turkish couple- Ali Morat and Ayse. Just some insight on politics here...the turks are especially patriotic right now because of the situation with the İraq war and US. 20 Turkish soldiers were killed by the PKK (kurds) last week near the İraq border. The president is upset and most every person here says they hate Bush.
