Sukothai means Rising Happiness

Sukothai was built by the Khmers in 13th century and 70 sites remain today in a 5km radius. What a romantic ancient city to ride bicylces around and from the many ruins that we have visited worldwide, this one had the most impressive lanscaped gardens. The Thai people are always making sure that things are BEAUTIFUL. The best ruins are pictured above, a stupa with a spire topping a square-sided structure on a 3-tiered base next to a lake. The 9m tall buddhas facing east among the broken colums pictured below were aweome and we want them in our backyard.

We ended our tour of the ruins with a thai massage overlooking the lake (pictured below right). Then back to our lovely Ban Thai Guesthouse to relax (pictured below left).
