Trekking in Nepal

This was Eileen's first 4-day trek and it was tough! Starting inRimbik at 7,087 feet and hiking 19km in a little over 4 hours. The porters walked so fast carrying twice their body weigh on their backs, like this guy pictured above. There were no cars on this part of the trek, therefore only passing a few houses with prayer flags, crops, and yaks. The next day we climbed straight up to Phalut at 11,160 feet! On the way our guide saw a rare red panda eating bamboo on the mountain and we saw 2 deer. In Phalut we were freezing and stayed huddled under 5 blankets in our hut the whole time. In the early morning we saw Mt. Everest and that was an amazing feeling!
Day 3 was supposed to have the best views of the snow-capped Himalayas, but it was cloudy and we saw nothing. Oh well, we did see a newborn baby colt only 2 hours-old learning how to walk. So adorable, we couldn't help but laugh! There were many horses carrying heavy loads in these mountains along the borders of India and Nepal. So lucky to see the rhododendruns in bloom which colored the mountainsides in red, pink, white. So romantic!
The Nepalese people we met along the way at the tea houses were so sweet and kind. After 4 days of hiking 19 to 21 km per day, our feet were tired and so glad to get in the jeep back to Darjeeling!
